One of the nicest things about working with children is taking the time to get to know them and learning new things about their personalities. This is not always possible when we are doing group activities, having Circle Time, or participating in Theme Centers. So to improve this, this semester we have really made an effort to spend at least 5-10 minutes with one or two children during Free Choice playing games and improving their math or language arts skills.
The kids have really responded positively to this new format and enjoy getting the one-on-one attention from each of the teachers. Even though it is Free Choice, the kids feel special being chosen to play a game with one of the teachers and in return not only are we able to access their levels of knowledge, it is a chance for us to get to know them better and bond with them.
It has really been a pleasure getting to know all of your kids this past year and we just appreciate them even more when we have a chance to sit down with them and help them learn new skills like counting to 20 or improving their writing skills.
